Project K.I.S.S Part 4 - Empowering our selves by becoming more confident and building our self esteem

A workshop on Self Image was held by a theatre professional Mr. Gerish Khemani. The activities taught us how to present ourselves to the world. We learned how to be confident with our bodies which brought a change in our attitude towards life.

At the end of the week we were given a chance to portray our emotions by creating and illustrating Slogans on Safety. Beautiful and attractive posters were designed with strong messages related to safety.

Project K.I.S.S Part 3 - Cyber safety

With technology , mobiles and social networking an integral part of our lives, a need was felt to make kids more aware of safety online.
An intense debate was held between the students and teachers. The crux of the debate was about the usage of social media for kids.
A plethora of knowledge was imparted by the highly qualified CID officers from the cyber-crime department, Mumbai. They made our children aware of some real case studies and gave them guidance on how to be safe online.

Project K.I.S.S Part 2- Safety aspects - Growing up safe

This part of the project saw students being made aware of various personal safety issues like - Good touch and Bad touch  as well as personal defense strategies .
Along with these aspects , safety at the mall and other public places was done through dramatization
Bullying in school as well as safety while travelling were also taken up.

Project K.I.S.S- Part 1 Safety begins from within

A person can only feel secure and safe- first and foremost from within - and then in the outside world.
As a part of the campaign "Project K.I.S.S" - this became our first step towards ensuring the safety of each child.

Students were divided into groups of six in each class and were given certain situations. They then had to discuss solutions to those situations. Then they had a choice to write a letter to their teacher regarding an issue which affected them or they were bothered by but which was never really addressed. The entire exercise was done to empower kids to reflect within themselves on what made them feel safe or vice versa and how could that be changed through voicing it out.

Grade 7 English Practice Comprehension - September

Grade 7   English Practice Comprehension - September

Read the following passage and answer the questions:

Since Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press in the 15th century ,reading on paper has been an essential part of our lives. It is difficult to believe then, that sales of electronic books will equal to those of paper books within a decade .Paper is only the latest in a long line of reading technologies which began with rock painting and clay tablets. The first paper was only produced in the ninth century.Electronic books (e-books) have taken a few more centuries to merge and despite the invitation of"CD-ROMS" in 1980s ,they have not really become popular .The only exception is the encyclopedia market.

The major problem with e-books has been that reading on-screen is hard on the eyes and takes more effort ,particularly for long texts.Recently Microsoft has developed a font display technology which  considerably improves on-screen resolution .This provides an on-screen reading experience that begins to rival paper.

But why would anyone prefer an e-book to a paper book, even of it is more easily readable?one advantage of e-books is that you get instant delievery from you web bookshop to you e-books is that you get instant delivery from your web bookshop to your e-book-a device the size of a paperback novel,on which you will be able to store hundred of book files.E-book technology allows you to have an entire library on your PC;a modern laptop can already hold more than 30,000 books .Children will be able to listen to unfamiliar words pronounced for them as they read. You will be able to listen to stories in situations where you are unable to read, such as driving .E-books can also include links to additional content whcih may come in the form of sounds and visual images ,transforming it into a multimedia experience .

The e-book will revolutionise the economics of publishing by reducing the cost of publishing as saving on materials ,labour, manufacturing and distribution .In the process a lot of trees will be saved and thus it will be a bigger contribution towards eco-friendly environment . It will be possible to establish virtual libraries which will have a access to the same information .

Q1) How does e-book save our environment ?

ANS: E-book saves environment as it doesn't need to be printed and thus paper is saved leading to less cutting of trees giving a boost to our environment .

Q2) What are the problems faced by an e-book reader ?

ANS:The major problem of the e-book is that reading becomes very difficult onscreen and it takes a lot of toll on our eyes making it a very tedious job .

Q3) How do you differ e-book from paper book ?

ANS: e-book - it doesn't need to be printed , It can be carried anywhere stored in a pendrive. A complete library can be stored in our laptops  it isn't heavy ,It saves environment unlike the
