Recap activity of an animal cell.
A fun filled activity was done by the students of grade 7 to help them recall the different organelles of an animal cell along with their functions.
A bowl of strawberry jelly was kept on the table along with a tray filled with different food items to represent a cell organelle. Students, in groups of three selected a particular food item, identified the organelle it represented and placed it in the jelly bowl. They then spoke to the class about their selection and the function of that respective cell organelle.

The various food items selected were:

FOOD ITEM CELL ORGANELLE REPRESENTED
Steel vessel - Cell membrane
Strawberry jelly - Cytoplasm
Biscuit - Nucleus
Noodles, noodles with fennel seeds - Smooth and rough endoplasmic reticulum
Aam papad - Golgi bodies
Guava slices - Mitochondria
Black colored candies - Ribosomes
Mango candy - Lysosomes
Carrot strips - Centrosomes

Finally, after a lot of fussing around, the cell model was ready. The students enjoyed making the cell model and equally enjoyed devouring their “creation”.
