WHY ARE TABLE MANNERS SO IMPORTANT?

Table manners are more than about proper eating. It’s about being kind and considerate to others. Table manners are taught as soon as your child understands what you are saying. Also children will need coaching and reminders on table manners throughout their childhood. It’s best to give positive reinforcement.

We at Rustomjee wish to inculcate this healthy habit in children right from the beginning. Therefore, keeping all the above importance in mind, we had conducted a DO IT YOURSELF ACTIVITY ON TABLE MANNERS in school, through the entire primary level. The following points were discussed with the children during their lunch break, with a class demo. Washing hands before eating is most important. Other aspects:

1. Eating with a fork.

2. Chew with mouth closed.

3. Don’t stuff your mouth full of food.

4. Place a napkin on your lap after being seated.

5. Don’t speak rude of the food you are being served.

6. Don’t shovel….Eat slow.

7. Avoid talking when eating.

8. Don’t chew the food with noise.

It was an activity that children enjoyed and felt a sense of achievement.
