LITERARY FEST

Reading to children is one to the best ways to put them on the road to success-academically and personally. Reading skills filters into all aspects of school. The best way to stress the importance of reading is to be actively involved in your child’s reading.

To best encourage this belief, we at Rustomjee organised A FAMILY READING EVENING. This was after a week long voluntary reading done by parents. For this particular evening, many theme based reading stalls were put up in different classrooms, by teachers for parents to come with their children, read a book and do a small follow up activity. Themes taken were like fairy tales, adventure, classics, mythology, etc.

There were workshops also, where new and innovative ideas were put forward, like abacus, warli painting, book making, etc. The whole ambience created was that of purpose, fun and creativity. The response from parents and children combined was happy and enthusiastic.

This evening was followed by a planned programme called BOOKS AND BLANKETS for children from grade 3 to grade 5. Activities and games related to reading were conducted during the fun filled progressive evening. Some of the activities were “What’s the good word”, “Bingo”, “Making a rebus chart”, “Reader’s Theatre” and “Making a Book Cover page”, etc. The evening moved into the night with dinner and a movie later on. Children had a farewell after breakfast in the morning. It was an amazing experience for both teachers and children. Away from home, and filled with excitement with friends
