Grade 5: Agents of seed dispersal

To get a clear idea about how different types of seeds are dispersed through various agents     (i.e. water, wind and animals) the students of grade 5 made a model of seeds using materials such as clay, plastic, cotton, pins etc. From the activity the students could investigate that:
·         Seed with hooks made using clay and pins are dispersed by animals as they could easily stick to animal’s fur.
·         Light weight seeds made by using cotton were easily carried away by the wind.
·         Seeds with spongy and light outer body made with plastic sheets were easily carried away by the flowing water.
The students enjoyed being a part of this activity they even recorded their observation in their book.
