Grade 3 Science
Soil Layers and Types of Soils
1. Different soil layers (Top soil, Sub soil, Rocky layer and Large Rocky bed) were displayed, by placing them in a bottle.
These layers were explained more clearly with the help of a diagram.
2. Demonstration was given to show how different types of soil absorb different quantities of water. Sandy soil holds the least water while Clayey soil holds the most, but becomes sticky. Loamy soil is the best for most plants.
3. Actual Rice (Paddy) crop along with the soil was shown (specimen collected from the field). Also some other plants and fruits requiring particular soils were displayed so that the students understand the importance of different soil types.
