Re-read the last line. Explain using your own words, what the writer means be:
' I wonder if they are going to compel them to sing German too!'
While attending his last class in French, he heard some pigeons cooing outside the classroom. He ironically wondered if the birds would also be forced to sing German and lose their freedom like the French people.
Give reasons from the passage as to why Monsieur Hamel say that they should be guilty for not learning French.
