Detection of sugar (glucose), proteins, starch, vitamin C and fat in food samples:
Students of grade seven were taken to the laboratory to perform detection tests on various food samples.
Solutions of Frooti drink and sugar were used for detection of glucose
Solutions of egg and milk were used for the detection of proteins.
Finely crushed samples of groundnuts and wafers were used for fat detection.
Banana slices were used for starch detection.
Diluted lemon juice was used to detect the presence of vitamin C.
Students were very keen to perform the experiments. Appearance of a particular color in the food sample after addition of the chemicals enabled them to understand the confirmatory tests for various components of foods.
