The chance to participate in a competition on a scale as large as Debating Matters India, organized by the British Council, doesn’t come very often. The students of RCIS were extremely lucky to have been offered the opportunity which was held on 27th of September, 2011 as they had qualified in the 1st online round.
The hosts and organizers were extremely warm and cordial. Our students were told the rules and format of the debate. It was for the first time that they were participating in this competition, so they couldn’t succeed in the knock-out round. They learnt a lot from the opponents, as well as the judges. They received good exposure to debates in a real scenario, rather than mock ones, and also to the various issues taking place in and around the world. On the whole, it was an amazing experience, and though they didn’t make it this time, we hope, in the future, to receive such a prospect again, and hope that they will do better. It was indeed a learning experience for our students.
