Students
were divided into groups. Each group was given a different object in their
classroom ( e.g. blackboard , wall painting , window , cupboard etc)to measure.
Each of the student in group measured the given object using body parts ( e.g.
handspun , footsteps , arm length etc) and compared his/ her answer with
others. They also calculated time required for each person to measure the
object. Later the same objects were measured with the help of standard units (
meter scale ). So students were able to compare the two methods of measurement.
This activity helped them to understand the need of having standard units of
measurement.
