§  How Molly was attacked by a dog.

§  Why the doctors gave her a new foot with a smile.

§  Write in your own words how you persuaded the little girl to be happy by telling her Molly's story.

·     How Molly was attacked by a dog.

One evening as usual I took Molly to the prosthesis center. There I met a girl who was very sad. I took Molly there, where the little girl sat on a far away bench in the garden. She held tightly in her hand a pretty doll that was old and tattered. She looked at Molly and smiled, but no sooner she saw her foot she became sad again. I asked the girl what's the matter? She didn't utter a word. I smiled and introduced Molly to her. I told her how Molly was attacked by a dog which left her with badly injured legs and large gashes in her face. Veterinarians there were able to save Molly's life, but soon one of her legs became very infected.

·        Why the doctors gave her a new foot with a smile.

The only way to save her life was to amputate or remove the infected leg. The girl listened to me attentively. I continued my story; Molly was in great pain but she was strong and faced this like a brave warrior. Doctors knew that Molly had amazing intelligence, and that she wanted to live. Several veterinarians operated on Molly, and amputated her infected leg. A false leg was made for her. The doctors gave Molly a special horseshoe that had a stamp of a smile face in it! The little girl smiled and gave a friendly look at Molly; she looked at her foot carefully. It was evident that she understood my story so I went on. After the operation, Molly walked around on all four legs, as if nothing had ever happened to her! Now, with every step she takes, she stamps a smile in the dirt. But she leaves her mark in other ways, too.

·        Write in your own words how you persuaded the little girl to be happy by telling her Molly's story.

From then on I brought Molly to the prosthesis center everyday so that Molly will be stronger each day by seeing other little children with artificial limbs just like her. Molly made them smile and gave them hope. They were amazed to see a pony with a prosthetic leg. Molly also visits schools, nursing homes, army bases, and hospitals. Molly has become a symbol of hope for people of all ages. Her story leaves a smile on people's faces, just as clearly as her horseshoe leaves a mark in the sand. The girl was happy she at once stood on her feet and tried to touch Molly. Molly too was quiet as if she had understood everything, she lifted her prosthetic leg and the girl saw a smile there down in the mud she looked at it, smiled and cheered up. She walked along with us and said that she will never be sad again.
