Dear friend,

Your letter truly surprised me. I was happy to hear about your promotion. It is very hot here. The summer has just come in and we are already facing a lot of problems but thanks to Dasrath Manjhi one of our fellowmen who has toiled hard for twenty two years to bring great relief to all the villagers.

I am sure you would love to know about Dasrath Manjhi. He has inspired everyone in our village to dream the impossible. He built a proper road through the hill so that the villagers could cross the hill easily. The hill kept the villages in isolation, forcing people to trek through dangerous ground for hours just to reach the nearest market town. Children had to walk eight kilometres to reach school, but thanks to Dasrath, that distance has been reduced greatly.

The village people did not take his project seriously and they ridiculed him and called him a madman for taking on such an impossible task. With the little help that he received, he began to split the hill in half. He never received any recognition from the government for his accomplishment. He believed that God was with him. He wanted life to be easier for his fellow villagers so he took such a Herculean task. Moreover you will be shocked to know that Dasrath Manjhi was not a learned man, neither did he have any access to machinery that could help him to take up this tedious task, he used the simplest tools - a chisel, rope and a hammer!

If you could make a trip to our village and see this, you too would get to know the greatness of this man. Dasrath taught us that patience is the greatest virtue that leads to success. He started it all alone and strived hard to complete his project. He was determined and optimistic to do the impossible task. He never let any hurdles prevent him from reaching his goal. I am proud of Dasrath but at the same time ashamed that we did not support him for this task. Today the villagers thank him for his great efforts as he made life easier for them. I have read similar stories of great people written in 'The Times of India' so I would request you to come to our small village to meet and see the works of this real hero. I would appreciate if you can bring this story in your newspaper as it will inspire others too.

Yours lovingly

XYZ
