Students of Grade 4 took part in “mark the shadow” activity, as a part of their Science chapter “Day sky, night sky”. Students attached a match stick at the centre of a sheet of paper. Then they were taken to the school lobby, where they kept the paper in the sun and marked and measured the shadow of the stick. They were encouraged to think as to the similarities and differences between the matchstick and its shadow. They understood that the length of the shadow would be different at different times. They were also given a home assignment, wherein they had to mark the shadows on their ‘sundials’, at five different times during the day.
