Structure of an atom.
An activity was done with the seventh grade students to learn the structure of an atom. The entire class was divided into 4 groups. One group was given the task of making a plum pudding model of the atom. The other three groups made clay models of the modern structure of an atom.
PLUM PUDDING MODEL OF A STRUCTURE OF AN ATOM
This plum pudding model was made by a group of students using colorful expandable beads (electrons), suspended in a bowl of water (positively charged nucleus).
This plum pudding model was made using yellow colored clay to represent the atom with green colored negatively charged electrons.
MODERN STRUCTURE OF AN ATOM
Model of the modern structure of an atom was made using red and yellow colored clay discs (protons and neutrons in the nucleus), green colored shells or orbits and orange colored balls (electrons). The purpose of this model was to make the students aware that the number of protons is always equal to the number of electrons.
