A preparatory Workshop was conducted at Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, TIFR, Mumbai,for MATH-MELA that our school will be hosting in association with Bristish Council and Prithvi Theatre.
The workshop included demonstrations and making of mathematics activities in the form
of Games, Puzzles and Teaching aids. While including the aspect of 'fun', the activities also made strong connections to and within mathematics. The workshops were hands-on and interactive, where participants made and actively interacted with each other.
The workshop was attended by Grade 11 students and 2 teachers.2 ex students also accompanied the team for the workshop.
Students of grade 11 will be training students of lower grades on activities like :-
• Puzzles on algebra, geometry, trigonometry, surds, number and operation sense
• Polyhedra and its properties
• Area activities through Tangrams, Geo-board, Pick's theorem
• Algebra activities - Algebra tiles, Generalizing patterns, Game of tower of Hanoi,
• Trigonometry application - Hypsometer/ Astrolabe
• Number games- Mind reader, Tic-Tac multipliers, Rat Race, Fraction chart
• Geometry through paper folding
• Topology puzzles
